Factors Affecting the Current Capital of MSEs: A Multiple Linear Regression Approach

As highlighted by Gebreeyesus (2011), they are considered the heart of development. However, many MSEs face significant hurdles in scaling their operations. Understanding what specific factors contribute to their growth—measured in this study by their current capital—is essential for crafting effective supporting policies.

We were collecting data from local shops. With population information being scarce, we were told to sample from clusters using the administrative sub-city classifications of Addis Ababa. About 100 samples were going to be taken from each sub-city.

Heads‑up: All the plots below were generated from our survey data analysis using R. For more detail, check out this
separate blog post.

🎬 How It All Started

We’re a group of Statistics students who got curious: how much do our classmates really lean on AI tools like ChatGPT? We used this idea as a spring board for our end of year research project.
We built a survey, crunched some numbers, and wrote up the results. The data are eye‑opening, the trends are interestingl, and (as we’ll happily admit) the sampling isn’t perfect.

Using Looker Studio to Bring Data Visualization to Game Night

I’ll start this post with a confession. It has been four months since I built the dashboard for
The Impostors League project. Spoiler alert: I haven’t opened Looker Studio since then. My memory is fuzzy, but hey—that makes this post more fun to write. Think of it as a reflection, with extra sprinkles of chaos.

What is Looker Studio?

Looker Studio is Google’s free, web-based data viz tool. Think of it as the chill, younger sibling of Power BI or Tableau… the one that doesn’t ask you to install anything or set up a whole environment.

In our dorm, we were deep into football games, especially 2024-modded Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 (PES 17) matches, playing in a mini-league we called The Impostors League. (We refer to ourselves as The Impostors after another one of our favorite games, Among Us.) The banter was there, the competition was present, and then someone said: “Wouldn’t it be cool if we started like a real league?”
